Join PT Library for a staging of the graphic novel El Deafo!
Port Townsend Public Library will host Book-It Repertory Theatre's performance of El Deafo to help kick-off its annual summer reading program. The theatre group will perform at the Cotton Building (607 Water St. Port Townsend) on Thursday, June 22, at 4pm. The show is geared for young people kindergarten through sixth grade.
In this staging of Cece Bell's Newbery-honored graphic novel, El Deafo, you will experience Cece's journey as she learns to embrace her hearing loss and searches for a true friend. When Cece is four years old she loses her hearing due to an illness. She faces embarrassment at school with her bulky hearing aid strapped to her chest, but with her hearing aid she discovers a superpower: the ability to hear the teacher when she is not in the room! Enjoy this funny and poignant stage production of El Deafo. This not to be missed show is free, and will be performed using spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL).
